Due to an oversight we have not been compliant with the requirements of the Department of Fair Trading for changing our Constitution. The Department of Fair Trading only has a copy of our constitution from 2003 and considers that version to be the only valid constitution. They were inadvertently not informed of the change to the end of financial year date from 30 September to 30 June which occurred at the Annual General meeting in 2009.
In order for the Department to change its records and accept our current constitution we now need to hold an extraordinary general meeting giving all our members 21 days notice. It is therefore proposed that the Association adopt a new and complete constitution - ie our current one – which specifies the change of financial year to be 30 June. The meeting will be held on 15 May at the Celestial Restaurant 15 Bligh Street Sydney, at 6.15 pm which gives us the requisite 21 days notice. The Department has noted that we are making a concerted effort to become compliant as soon as possible.
The second item for consideration separate from the constitution is our membership fees. The Board decided at the April Board Meeting that a restructure of the fees was long overdue. The proposed new membership fees for consideration at the meeting are as follows:
- Students and Pensioners (retirees): $80
- Practitioner members: $140
- National Mediation Accreditation fee to be paid biennially: $100
- Sponsorship Fee: $500
Please note the sponsorship fee includes a free dinner at the AGM sitting with the guest speaker; free entry to the ADRA seminars and free entry to the six Mediator Practice Network events for which there are 18 CPD points/year (if all are attended).
Please respond to this email regarding your availability to attend the extraordinary general meeting on 15 May at 6:15pm at the Celestial.
