My academic and business history as relates to Mediation is:
I completed my Law studies at the Sydney University in 1968 and served three years articles of clerkship with LLG Marton, a sole practitioner a considerable part of whose work was Family Law with which I spent much time taking instructions and briefing counsel.
On admission to practice I joined JW Milne & Berry which comprised a principal. myself, a clerk and about 6 other staff. I had the carriage of all litigation which included family law. In about 1980 I was invited to be an Arbitrator in the Local and District Courts of New South Wales under the Philadelphia system.
The firm was founded by John Wrangham Milne in Gladesville in 1925 and opened the city office in about 1948 retaining the Gladesville office as a branch. Bruce Houston Berry joined the firm in about 1956. The 2 partners shared the attendances at Gladesville. When I joined the firm in 1969 I replaced Mr Milne as well his attendances at Gladesville, attending afternoons of Mondays and Thursdays and Friday nights at 7:00 – 9:00 pm.
