DESCRIPTION:ADRA will be hosting an event with Dr Amanda White\, President\, ANZAPPL (New South Wales) as guest speaker. Attendance to this event allows you to earn 1 CPD point. The topic for this event is “Cognition\, mental disorders and capacity in the legal context” \n\n\n\nThis presentation aims to explore the role of cognition and mental disorders when examining questions of legal capacity. Discussion will focus on how these factors may be relevant to various aspects of the law and related processes including instructing lawyers in proceedings\, executing decisions and an individual’s capacity to partake in mediation.Dr White will explain some of the neurological and psychological factors including autism spectrum disorder and personality disorder which may influence an individual’s cognition and capacity and provide information and basic strategies as to how to work with these presentations within this context. \n\n\n\n\nDr White is an endorsed Forensic Psychologist and Clinical Neuropsychologist with extensive training and experience in the preparation of forensic psychological and neuropsychological reports. She is skilled in the comprehensive assessment of cognitive\, behavioural and psychological impairments associated with complex histories\, multiple comorbidities and a range of conditions\, including acquired brain injury\, neurodegenerative disorders\, psychological and psychiatric illness\, neurological conditions\, intellectual disability\, substance use disorders and forensic matters including risk assessment. She has extensive experience conducting assessments and reports surrounding decision making and capacity evaluations. She has appeared as an expert witness in the NSW courts and various tribunals. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNote that the preferred attendance for this event is via Zoom (link will be on your ticket).
