We were thrilled to host the Judicial General Council of Mongolia during their visit to Australia, as they explore the Family Court processes with the aim of adopting similar practices back in Mongolia. This visit plays a pivotal role in the country’s family law reforms, with plans to implement a similar system by 2026.
A special thanks to the following organisations who made this visit possible:
- Katherine Johnson from ADRA
- Jaimol, Justice Anderson, Justice Riethmuller from FCFCOA Parramatta Court
- Ruth Pilkinton from Legal Aid
Below is an extract of the text from the Family Court:
On Monday 10 March 2025, the Parramatta Registry was pleased to host the Judicial General Council of Mongolia during their week-long visit to Australia. The delegation from the Judicial General Council of Mongolia has been involved in a fact-finding mission to inform the new standalone Mongolian family law system that will be established from January 2026, replacing the existing system that is incorporated into general civil law systems in Mongolia.
This is the sixth occasion that a delegation from Mongolia has visited Australia as the guests of the Australian Dispute Resolution Association (ADRA). Katherine Johnson, who is accompanying the delegates on this visit, is Co-President of ADRA and also active in the Greater Sydney Family Law Pathways Network (GSFLPN). Katherine requested the support of GSFLPN to support the delegation. Chair of GSFLPN and solicitor from Legal Aid NSW, Ruth Pilkinton, then extended a request to the Parramatta Registry to host the the delegation from the Judicial General Council of Mongolia.
